Communities In Schools

Office: Located in Library
Communities In Schools is a stay in school program dedicated to meeting the needs of our students and their parents through a team of professionals working together. These adults come from different agencies to provide academic assistance, enrichment activities, employment/career awareness programs, health and human services and field trips to enhance your child’s learning. The CIS case manager is always available to provide the attention, motivation, support, and follow-up for your child.
CIS is part of the regular school day. CIS activities will take place during appropriate times during the day so that the students’ regular classroom time will not be interrupted. CIS works closely with parents and school personnel to make sure that students have the support they need. Parents are always welcome to participate in any CIS activity.
Services available through CIS include:
- Supportive guidance (one on one, group and crisis intervention)
- Parent meetings and home visits
- Attendance monitoring
- Homework help
- Enrichment programs
- Anger management
- Drug and Alcohol awareness
- Employment Opportunities
The Mission of CIS is to help young people of Texas stay in school, successfully learn and prepare for life by coordinating the connection of community resources in the school setting. As the site coordinator at BCMS for the past three years, but 16 years with CIS, one of my main targets is to work with the students that are most at risk of dropping out of school due to family and personal issues. Another is to help families through the fall season with Thanksgiving Care Boxes, a complete Turkey meal, Christmas tree donations, and clothing drives. The month of December will be to find a few families who will be sponsored for Christmas, and our Toys for Tots toy Drive. All toys will be given to the distribution center at the San Benito Valley International Christian Church.
